Republicans Attack Obama for Campaign Honesty
Monday, February 23, 2009 at 1:56 pm
The Republican National Committee today blasted out an e-mail attacking President Obama for the “fiscal farce” of holding a fiscal “responsibility summit” at this time, “after Democrats add trillions in new deficit spending and Obama told voters he wouldn’t close the deficit.”
Well, yes. Obama told voters he wouldn’t close the deficit. Last July:
I do not make a promise that we can reduce [the deficit] by 2013 because I think it is important for us to make some critical investments right now in America’s families.
The financial crisis has changed the scale of Obama’s statement, but not the substance. It would be one thing to attack Obama if he was going back on promises to cut spending, but he isn’t.

Exactly! Of course, the Repubs would have attacked him if he had broken his campaign promises, too.

What about the promise of transparency? Why hide his passports, long-form birth certificate, college records? What about the promise permitting the public 5 days to view proposed legislation before taking a vote? The Spenulous Bill was voted on in under 12 hours. What about Change and Hope? While he now speaks of nothing but disasters, catastrophes, and dire consequences all we can hope for is to have some change tossed our way. Where did Mr. Hope, Transparency, and Accountability go? The election should have been held on April 1st because whomever voted for Obama is a fool!

Mr Weigel, you got to admit that nothing he's done so far (and most of what he plans to do) is pretty much at odds with every single item on this page: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/fiscal/

I agree and that is just a start. Republicans are so interested in attacking politically when they should be trying to help solve the financial crisis this nation is in. It appears their playbook is written by Rush Limbaugh and that is very disappointing to see the countries needs be made into a political football by the neo-conservative right.
