Stop blaming the homeowners. The people who sold (mortgage brokers / loan officers) supported by shady mortgage banks are much more to blame than the wishful thinking home buyer with limited financial knowledge. The “experts” gave mortgages to people who should never have qualified. The mortgage brokers make their money (commission) as soon as the loan closes. They could not have cared less whether or not the people made their first let alone their last payment on that home. They were in it to make a buck (several or more thousand bucks per loan). Some people may have known they were wishful thinking when they took the loan. However, it's more likely that it was “sold” to them. It was and is a sleezy industry. This is a one finger pointing at the homeowner three fingers pointing back at the banks situation. The banks and especially the “brokers” made the real mess. WIthout regulation greed runs amuck.
