Obama Camp Responds to Clinton Speech
Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Denver–This comes from Obama communications director Robert Gibbs following Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s speech here at the Pepsi Center tonight:
After leaving the house party [in Billings, Montana], Senator Obama called and talked for several minutes with Senator Hillary Clinton saying how grateful he was for her support, that she gave a terrific speech and that all those he watched with in Billings, MT were moved by her video and introduction from Chelsea. Also said he loved her line “No way, no how, no McCain.”
Senator Obama also called and spoke with President Bill Clinton for several minutes saying Senator Clinton could not have been better and made the case for change. Obama said he knew how proud he must have been watching as he was last night watching Michelle speak and how grateful he was for their support.
There are tense telephone conversations and there are tense telephone conversations. One can only imagine the suppressed animosity Obama and Clinton shared as they spoke for what must have been some of the longest minutes of this campaign. Now that his wife has done her service to the party one is left to wonder whether Bill Clinton can match his wife’s enthusiasm and help the Democratic Party move past the primary wars of New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Thank God we have reporters around to tell us what's in the minds of our candidates. Where would we be without you?

I am sick to death of the media making the democratic process about petty personality rivalries and the primate behaviors of the candidates, or their campaign strategies. This election is about the American public. We are faced with some of the most wicked problems in history and the Republicans have stolen all the tax revenue we will be collecting for the next 30 years–and not ONE mention is made of it. We have one candidate who believes in war for glory all the time, anywhere, anyplace, and not one word about it. Instead, lets focus on a thankyou call that lasted all of 2 minutes. THAT is SOOOO important to us all…

Do you really wonder “whether Bill can match his wife's enthusiasm”?? This is one of the premiere political performers of our time. I think he can bask in the love of the Democratic crowd and reconnect with his own party loyalty and positive feelings about the country. From there it's a very small step to putting real feeling into what is sure to be an enthusiastic speech. No worries.

I seriously doubt Obama and Clinton still have any “suppressed animosity” on the telephone. They had it out at Sen. Feinstein's house after the election. I'm sure they are perfectly cordial. If they dwelled on lingering resentments, they wouldn't be able to move forward, which they both have done.

I agree there probably is little animosity anymore. However, that is not what is important. The question is whether Hillary' can convince her supporters to enthusiastically support, work for and vote for Obama.

“One can only imagine” the suppressed animosity because you have no evidence that it exists. “One is left to wonder” whether media mind-readers like Pappu will ever learn to consult the facts rather than pushing their pre-packaged story lines.

“One can only imagine the suppressed animosity… “
Yes, and one can only imagine how sweet the cheese is that the moon is made of.
Thanks for that terrific insight. Don't quit your other job just yet.

Oh, my god. Will you give it a rest?
Will Huckabee's speech at the Republican convention be as gracious? Will Romney's? When McCain calls them, will there be 'suppressed animosity'? How the hell would you know?

O'Bama: Bill, Senator CLinton was fantastic this evening. You must be proud.
Bill: Who is this and how did you get this number?
O'Bama: It's barack, Bill. Barack Obama.
Bill: Who? Never heard of you. Is this some crank call?
O'bama: Haha, that's a good one, Bill. Anyway, I am looking forward to your speech tonight, too.
Bill? HUH? Hey quit calling here before I complain to the police. damn uppity upstarts who are wet behind their ears and don't know their betters.

That was nice of Obama. I mean what more could they say? They're nice people. They say thank you. I just hope and pray Obama becomes the next President and Hillary Clinton gets what's coming to her – a vote out of the Senate.
