Carlos Gutierrez on the Stimulus
Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 10:53 am
At a panel discussion on Republicans and the Hispanic vote, held at the Capitol Hill Club next door to the Republican National Committee offices, former President George W. Bush’s second Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez attacked the stimulus package as a deficit-ballooning mistake that “ignores small business.”
“We’re heading toward a European economic model,” said Gutierrez. “If you look back at Western Europe 10 years ago, you would not trade that for what we have.” He continued: “Look at the changes to the tax system. It could take 10 to 15 years for a Republican president to reverse them.”
