Pork, No! Astroturf, Yes!

The Republican National Committee passes along a local news write-up of an anti-stimulus protest in Denver that brought together hundreds of party operatives, moms with children in tow, anti-illegal-immigration activists and self-described libertarians, as well as  the people who are to anti-Obama activism what the 9/11 Truthers were to anti-Bush protests.

Another man stood in the middle of the crowd after the rally shouting things such as: “And by the way, Obama, where’s your birth certificate?”

The pictures reveal a smallish crowd that’s nonetheless impressive—how often do you see these sorts of protests in the post-Ron Paul era?—until you realize that the event was sponsored by Americans for Prosperity, the six-year-old small government group funded by energy interests and really quite skilled at displays of psuedo-populist activism. Remember the hot air balloon that floated around swing states last year, making the case against “global warming hysteria?”  That was them.

What makes you think we're in the “post-Ron Paul era”? He's getting as much or more attention as when he was a presidential candidate, and his Campaign for Liberty is very much alive and well.

I also disagree- Ron Paul's policies and perspective are far more relevant, or at least obvious today- and I hear this coming from many who supported both Obama and McCain.
It doesn't take a “expert” in economics to question the futility of trying to borrow & spend our way out of a crisis caused by over-borrowing & over-spending.

Forget the stimulus as what we need is to control the national debt which is being expanded due to the bailouts.

Join the Washington National Debt Revolt – Washington has bailed out the banks, Wall Street & their Washington special interests and much of the cost is added to the national debt to by paid by this and future generations. The Campaign to Cancel the Washington National Debt By Constitutional Amendment is starting now in the U.S. See: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=675946904…

What's the point Weigel? We already have 5,500 lobbyists writing and effectively passing legislation to fund any preferred special interest or multinational. This stimulus is the biggest crock of crapola I have heard about, as is indicated by the shoddy technique through which a small crop of legislators rammed it through the Congress. Report on that–if you need the facts, I'll supply them. So yes, maybe there is a special interest group here–big deal.
