Americans for Tax Reform passes along an affidavit they sent to House members before the stimulus vote.
I, _____________________________, commit to the taxpayers of the (___________________ district of the) State of _______________________, that my vote in favor of the conference report on H.R. 1 will be an informed vote, because I will have read the full text of the bill and the conference report by the time I cast my vote.
Surprise: “not a single Democrat has confirmed he or she actually read the bill before voting on it.” Of course, Republicans are bragging about the fact that they voted against it without reading it, so there’s a sort of Bizarro Pascal’s Wager in effect.

Since the vote on the stimulus bill by the Republicans was basically a party vote is it safe to assume that the GOP is actually hoping things get worse in America between now and 2010? Clearly if we take economist in general at their word we will hit bottom sometime in 2009 and then begin the long slow climb back from that point. And since a lot of stimulus package spending doesn't kick in till 2010 or later, even if things are not significantly better but just better than 2009 the Democrats have a PR windfall. And if Obama starts chipping away at the deficit has he plans (what, $530B off it by 2012-13) what will the Republicans have to point at in their 2010 campaigns…Hi, remember me, I voted against helping you all out in 2009 and now that things are getting better and even though I was against this plan and helping you out I want you to send me back to Washington…um, tax cuts! tax cuts!…um trickle down economics…um, abortion!, gay marriage!
It's like their leadership is flying a plane with only one engine, not two engines, one not working, just one engine, the plane is sideways and going down…
