Radioactive Loan Guarantees Get Cut

Friends of the Earth is reporting that $500 million in loan guarantees coveted by the nuclear industry were stripped from the Obama administration’s stimulus bill at the last minute. Last week, 243 environmental, consumer, and religious organizations and small businesses sent a joint letter to senators expressing their “dismay and anger” over the inclusion of the guarantees by the Senate Appropriations Committee.

As I reported yesterday the whole idea was the brainchild of Utah Senator Bob Bennett who the proceeded to voted against the stimulus package. The fact that supporters of the idea could never bring themselves to defend the chief beneficiary, the nuclear power industry, showed the political radioactivity of the idea. Yesterday, the language authorizing the expenditure was cut by House and Senate negotiators. Waste averted.

Its too bad it got cut, for once these moronic politicians could have steered the country in the right direction but instead doomed our economy by screwing the owrking class once again in almost every part of the stimulus. The working class will pay for it and get less. We will especially get less on our checks. Now who is going to support the country, the generations of welfare who have drained the system….I dont think so.

You can only delay progress, not halt it. When Obama and the jackasses (Democ-rats) in Congress get replaced in '12 by a responsible politicians (read: Republicans), the nuclear industry will be jump-started and come back stronger than ever. Wasting money on pie-in-the-sky wind, solar, and hydro sources of power will only cause rolling blackouts as our country expands.
