While the votes aren’t yet in for Iraq’s provincial elections, The New York Times reports that it looks like former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi’s secular Iraqi National List has won a plurality of seats in Salahuddin Province, a majority-Sunni province north of Baghdad. Allawi was one of the foreign ex-leaders I singled out in my snotty casualties-of-George W. Bush piece two weeks ago. While this is a far cry from a restoration to the premiership, it bears mentioning that Allawi’s career isn’t totally in ruins.
