PHOENIX, Ariz. — Yesterday afternoon, the McCain campaign sent out word that Sen. John McCain would hold a press conference at about 8 a.m. this morning at Central High School in downtown Phoenix. This morning, I dutifully left my Scottsdale apartment, and drove myself to this campaign event — which I must say was a nice change of pace. I arrived here at the high school, and took a seat in the front row and awaited the arrival of the rest of my colleagues from the national traveling press, who are expected to arrive en masse from the swanky Biltmore Hotel. Shortly thereafter, a McCain staffer came over to me and informed me that the national press would be sequestered in the back corner of the room, and McCain will take questions from CHS students instead. I thought this was too good to be true.
