Christmas for Lou Dobbs

For almost four years, the fate of U.S. border agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean had been a sort of cause celebre among immigration restrictionists. In 2005, Ramos and Compean confronted a Mexican drug runner with 800 pounds of marijuana in his truck, and shot him (non-fatally). The man was unarmed, and the border agends got more than a decade in prison.

Since then former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) has repeatedly demanded that the agents be freed. Former Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) introduced a Ramos and Compean Act that would have pardoned the men (though this would have been legally impossible). Lou Dobbs occasionally turned his show into an infomercial for the men.

As we ponder the political significance of President George W. Bush, the man who wanted the GOP to win the Hispanic vote, following the will of Lou Dobbs, let’s listen to a tribute song to the two agents. “We fight to the end and we all stand strong/with Ramos and Compean.”

Weigel continues to be nothing more than a mainstream hack, peddling the line about the “Hispanic vote” when there really is no such thing, and anyone this side of Gramsci should oppose race-based power. Bush's supposed plans to get Hispanic support by being Democratic Lite were as smart as his other efforts, and – while he probably actually believed his BS – the bottom line is that most of those who played along were trying to make money, money that was in some cases derived from illegal activity. And, of course, all of McCain's Bush-style pandering was for naught, and the Dems were always able to undercut his efforts. Obviously, smarter ideas are needed.

I note also that Weigel wrote a post discussing me (daveweigel.com/?p=2072) and I signed up yesterday and left a comment which has still not appeared. It concerns an issue that Weigel keeps misleading about because he's unable to approach an issue with an open mind and think things through. He can't even pick up the phone and call Hawaii and ask them to confirm his assumptions. If they won't confirm his assumptions, then he should print a retraction of his past statements.

Let me make this easier on Weigel.

The phone number to call is (808) 586-4258. Ask for their spokeswoman, and say: “I assume, based on the 10/31 statement, that the HDOH has verified that BHO was born in HI. Is my assumption correct?” Then, write down what she says and print it.

For extra credit, say, “Isn't it true that under HI law, BHO's certificate could indicate a non-HI birth and still meet the description given in the 10/31 statement?”

I swear, this is like living through Idiocracy. Just pick up the phone and verify your assumptions like a real reporter would.

There are some interesting points in time in this article but I donÂ’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There is some validity but I will take hold opinion until I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we want more! Added to FeedBurner as well
