Israel, Kind of Crassly, Aims To Pull Troops Out of Gaza by Obama’s Inaugural
Monday, January 19, 2009 at 12:53 pm
Jerusalem welcomes the 44th President of the United States by trying to clear a mess off of his plate:
Israel hopes to pull all its troops out of the Gaza Strip by the time Barack Obama is inaugurated as president of the United States on Tuesday, Israeli officials said.
Good good good that the war in Gaza is coming to a conclusion. Unmitigated good there. But isn’t it kind of tacky to peg the withdrawal to the newly sworn in president? Doesn’t that send the message that the Gaza war was little more than a chance to take advantage of the blind eye of the Bush administration one final time? I suppose that as someone who argued for finding any pretext to end the war that I can’t complain, but this looks unseemly.

Do you really believe that Israel should keep its troops in Gaza, regardless of casualties on both sides, so as not to be charged by people like yourself of playing politics? Lives are more precious than public relations.

Israel is damned if it does and damned if it does not.
That country should do whatever is necessary to protect itself since an ungrateful world will always find fault with it. Yes , Mr. Ackerman.
Why not see the withdrawal as a gesture towards Obama, so he would not have to deal with it on the first week? Israelis soldiers, are fighting everyday to defend the citizens of Israel. The Israeli ministers and members of the Knesset all have children or nieces or nephews or fathers and mothers in the army. Why do you think they are playing with their children's lives to play politics?
You, Mr Ackerman, live in the US probably not doing anything but reporting, yet you must find something to destroy. How do you know that the withdrawal was not requested by the US?

oil and tears
the whole world will change
every day a new landscape
each night a new dream
in the bare desert
the wind will shift a huge dune
