Your rationional makes lotsof sense. however, I am working with seniors who seem to be having the most difficult time understanding this issue. They have t.v.'s in their home and they only want the news and therefore only need a tv that receives the signal. My understanding is that there is a request for 155000 people waiting on the coupons and just from my county in Colorado, I am hearing from at least 3 people a day who still need them and haven't requested them as of yet. If you are on my end and after much study on the subject its not just the coupon program thats in trouble but the whole process that is flawed. I beleive that on the 18th of Feb we will go peacefully into the future or there will a great deal of confusion.

I am one of those old people who managed to get a coupon but it expired before I could get enough money to put with it to buy the box. Guess what... they will not replace it. I wonder where the money really is. I returned the coupon and asked and asked and they don't bend the rules. So I have this one computer I can get on and will have to get my news from it.

The government providing converter box coupons is not a matter of bang for the buck but a question of of propriety. The government mandated a change to a different technology, abandoned the old wireless spectrum and sold it off to the highest bidder for which it fetched a pretty sum of about 20 billion. To not provide a transition for those worst affected by the transition would be plain irresponsible, esspecially when it is only the fraction of the cost of what that spectrum sold for, just about 2 billion.
