Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) also appeals about conflict of interest, briefly. Amazing how there’s such respectful GOP treatment of Hillary Clinton. He derides the State Department a bit and then asks about promoting U.S. businesses overseas.
Clinton says that “the work of the State Department, both in diplomacy and development, is not well-understood … we have a bigger job of explaining to the American people why our national security depends on defense, diplomacy and development.” She adds that “there are a lot of ways that non-government actors, like corporations, like charities … are building relationships with foreign people and foreign governments all the time.” Praises “a number of private-sector actors” in Rwanda. She wants more of that — “really, it’s all hands on deck.”
