Second, what does it matter if we have (relative) peace in Baghdad -- and chaos in Kabul?

As far as our all-volunteer military is concerend, we only have a limited number of chips to play with. Bush chose to invested them all in Iraq with practically none going into the country that originally harbored the terrorists that attacked us in 9/11.

If we're serious about the threat terrorism is making the question ought to be not what the climate is at the moment in Iraq but that choice of operations affects how we're doing in Afghanistan.
