Being from Illinois, this whole Burris thing is a sad episode. It didn't need to happen. Blago should have resigned the day he was arrested. But Blago is too proud and too corrupt to do that. Eventually Burris will be seated but I see nothing wrong with Dems distancing themselves as much as possible from Blago or anything Blago has touched. If Burris runs in 2010 he'll lose. There's also a very good chance the Dems will lose the seat in 2010 no matter what. What a shame.

Franken, on the other hand, is an elected senator and should be seated. I see two very different situations here.

This is certainly a tricky situation for Democrats but they should stick to the law and set aside the politics. Burris has been appointed legally by the Illinois governor so they should seat him. I know it might stink a little bit but they can plead that they are bound by law. They should also wait for the legal wranglings in MN to play out before they seat Franken.
