Pentagon Pledges To Ignore Senate’s Torture Report

Well, not explicitly, of course. But that Senate Armed Services Committee report blaming Donald Rumsfeld for the torture of detainees in Defense Dept. custody? The one I reported on last week and that Daphne referenced in her last post? Don’t expect the Pentagon to do anything with it.

From a Pentagon release that just landed in my inbox:

The Defense Department will take action if an upcoming congressional report on the treatment of detainees in U.S. custody yields new information, a Pentagon spokesman said.

That lipstick trace on your cheek? That’s the Pentagon’s kiss-off.

Maybe they are smart enough to know that doing any investigating before Jan 20 would be an exercise in futility. Only 33 more days.

Some suggestions:

Rename the Defense Department to the “War and Military Politics Department”

Let the public vote for the “War and Military Politics Czar”

Prohibit the National Guard from going to war unless Congress declares a National Emergency and the President signs in agreement.

Create a pay scale that has a living wage for all direct family members of any military or national guard serving in a combat zone.

Create a Veterans Care Cabinet post which by law must inform the President if:

Psychological and medical care is substandard for vets and vet families, and then make a press release of the report to the President.

The physical facilities for care are not equal to or a better than private care facilities.
