Siun at Firedoglake — where, full disclosure, my personal blog is hosted — rounds up a series of Iraqi news reports suggesting that shoe-throwing journalist Muntader al-Zaidi is being tortured. According to an Iraqi member of parliament, Zainab al-Kanani, al-Zaidi’s hand was broken in Iraqi custody. al-Sharqiya, an Iraqi TV channel, reports that he had “broken ribs and signs of tortures [sic] on his thighs” and is moved to Camp Cropper, the U.S.-run detention facility near the Baghdad airport complex where Saddam Hussein was held. I can’t confirm any of this, by any strecth. But if it’s true — why is a guy who threw a shoe at President Bush going to such a high-security facility?
