TWI Reporter Talks Gitmo on Al Jazeera

TWI’s legal correspondent Daphne Eviatar appeared on the Al Jazeera English show Inside Story on Tuesday to discuss the future of Guantanamo and its detainees. For a thorough and level-headed analysis of this important topic, take a look at the video, in two parts after the jump.
In the first segment, Daphne and former Guantanamo detainee Moazzam Begg debate the dilemma of what to do when a detainee attempts to enter a guilty plea in a military tribunal when he may have been coerced or tortured. Daphne argues that federal courts would be able to prosecute these detainees more successfully and fairly:
In the second segment, law professor and former Israeli military judge Amos Guiora pushes for the creation of a “domestic terror court system” to try detainees. Daphne counters that setting up this new system would take far too long and could prove problematic, while the federal courts are more than capable of handling the trials. Daphne wins. No bias here.
