Report: Jesse Jackson Jr. Neck Deep In Blagojevich Scandal
Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., a short-list candidate to fill the Illinois Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama, is “Senate Candidate No. 5″ in the complaint against Gov. Rod Blagojevich, ABC News is reporting, citing unnamed federal law enforcers. From ABC:
According to the FBI affidavit in the case, Blagojevich “stated he might be able to cut a deal with Senate Candidate 5 that provided ROD BLAGOJEVICH” with something “tangible up front.”
What do they mean by “tangible up front?” Apparently the discussion (through intermediaries) revolved around a $1 million cash payment to the governor in return for the Senate post. Yikes!
When ABC asked Jackson if he is, indeed, #5, he said, “I don’t know,” adding that he is “not a target of this investigation.”
Get the popcorn. The fallout from the Blagojevich mess is just beginning.
