Maybe you did it. Lets torture you and see how long it takes to convince you that you are the mastermind of Al Qaeda. All it takes is a few minutes, now stretch that out to seven years of constant torture and abuse. I bet they could get you to admit to shooting JFK and Archduke Ferdinand, and you'd pass a lie detector test to boot because only if you believe it will the torture stop. Hell you might be Pontius Pilate after seven years of sleep deprivation, electrocution, waterboarding, crushing, sexual humiliation and rape. It wouldn't be a hanging, it would be in effect a crucifixion.
Once you become the monster, you no longer can fight monsters.
