Here’s a remarkable statistic.

The Caucus reports that the Obama-Biden transition team has received more than 200,000 résumés through its Change.gov Web site since putting out the call for applicants just after the election.

Last week, the federal government released its quadrennial “Plum Book,” listing all of the roughly 7,000 political jobs becoming available with the change of administration.

Assuming everyone who has sent in a résumé is remotely qualified for a position, each position receives a similar number of applicants, all of the positions are filled from the Web site applicant pool, and no more résumés are received (admittedly, none of these assumptions are very likely), this means that the maximum acceptance rate of applicants is 3.5 percent.

To put this in perspective, the race to fill jobs in the new administration is at least twice as competitive as getting into Harvard.
