Spencer:

Thank you for your commitment to this story and the terrific post desribing some of the most compelling and heart-rendeing testimony I have ever heard. I am a noncombat Viet Nam era vet and attended Winter Soldier as a member of Veterans for Peace. We gray haired ones were there to support our brothers and sisters in arms of another generation. These were articulate, courageous, and sometimes almost-broken young people who supported their country in the execution of a policy based on a lie and the logic of which forced them to do things against their better natures. This country and the military owes them better than it has given. There were a lot of tears shed by strong people during the days of the conference, but the experience was transformative.

Your solidarity with the men and women of your generation and your marvelous reporting of Winter Soldier and other military and international matters is exemplary. I admire your work and applaud your courage in attempting to bring out these matters to a country that is seemingly deaf to the prophet's cry. I saw that you were registered at the conference and looked for you to wish you well and thank you for your work. Maybe some other we can meet and I can tell you how much I and other laboring in our way for a beter world appreciate your work. With all best wishes. In solidarity for peace.

Charles Rossi

Veterans for Peace Chapter 31 Philadelphia

The article says "Yet the organizers of Winter Soldier will consider the event a failure if it appears to blame soldiers and Marines for the war." But I believe we military veterans have to admit to our complicity in the atrocities. That is why I refused to go and deserted. If you follow illegal orders, that makes you liable.

Carl Webb
Iraq Veterans Against War

Spencer:

Addendum to comment: Michelle Malkin's blog against the IVAW is more vicious than the war itself! Please read it to contradict it. I knew the woman championed WWII Japanese internment camps, but I didn't know she was so bloodthirsty. Of course, her logo says it all: a pen with a knife attached. I'd rather be attacked by Genn Close ala "Fatal Attraction". Why couldn't we satisfy her bloodlust and send HER to Iraq? I'd even give her a white hat, a sabre, a winchester an a palamino horse - Ann Coulter.

I was hoping NOT to be the first to comment. After all, outrage likes company. "exciting" "romantic" I can feel the insult. Buzz-word Bush struck again. In being placed in Iraq and Afghanistan by Bush, only the most brainwashed and (unfortunately)the most idiotic would find those words uplifting.

Spencer (or anyone else for that matter),do you really think Winter Soldiers' testimonies will be given the full coverage and scrutiny that they deserve? While I don't think it will merit Fox News and its incredibly high Rupert Murdoch standards, coverage should be pushed in front of the face of every American. Abu Graib was exposed by people willing to take the risk of being considered "far left" and "unAmerican" Are there others who(like yourself)are daring to cover Winter Soldiers with any credibility?

I'll take the risk of getting moralizing moron email: dan-vojir@sbcglobal.net (also: http://thedevilanddanvojir.blogspot.com)
