It goes on and on.

New Mexico Independent reports that defeated U.S. Senate candidate Steve Pearce is telling party officials he is interested in running for the chair of the state Republican party, saying improbably that he wants to foster party unity. Problem is that six months ago, the right-wing congressman gleefully divided the party by challenging the conservative credentials of the more moderate Rep. Heather Wilson. Pearce barely won the primary and got walloped by liberal Tom Udall in the general election.

In Michigan, four party leaders are vying for the state party chair with predictable prescriptions for recovery (”embrace the grassroots,” pursue “a broad section” of voters, end corruption), that replicate the very divisions that netted John McCain a whopping 41 percent of the state’s vote on Election Day.

In Colorado, a former Republican regent of the state university system says the social conservatives’ grip on the GOP cannot be broken. He is calling for state Republicans to create a new third party. No takers yet.
