The Navajo Nation has sued the EPA for stalling on an air permit for the proposed Desert Rock coal plant. We reported last month that Navajo Nation president Joe Shirley might file suit.
The Shirley administration says it will receive $5 million in tax revenue a month from the Desert Rock project. But Navajo citizens don’t expect to see much of that money. Nor do they expect to see any of the electric power the plant will generate, despite the fact that about 18,000 Navajo families still live without electricity.
