Did Petraeus Just Say Iran Wants Iraq to Succeed?

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) asked if Iran has been strengthened. In the course of a delicate answer, Petraeus said that Iran “presumably” wants the first “Shiite democratic” state to succeed.

Wrong answer, general! You made the mistake of assessing Iran and Iraq through the prism of such trivial things as national interest and cultural bonds. Don’t you know the only prism for understanding Iraq is through a U.S.-centric ideological construct? It’s right there in your briefing notes! Now never be honest again.
