Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) gets pugilistic. “My constitutents and I believe, after 5 yrs, 4,024 dead, 30,000 wounded, and nearly $600 billion spent, why is the best you can say is that the gains are ‘fragile and reversible’?” She said. The reason? “There’s been no political solution.” She told Crocker “I find your testimony very status quo.” But then something unexpected happened.

Boxer said she didn’t object to paying off the Sunni insurgents, but she did object to the U.S. object paying it. And then she won Petraeus over! “Those are very important questions,” he said, and then promised he’d take that concern to Maliki. Miraculously, Boxer said, “I’m very happy.”

Was that so hard?
