Mike McIntyre, a Democratic Congressman from North Carolina, wanted to know where Iraq stands on the famous 18 benchmarks that Congress wants to measure on political and economic issues.

Crocker implied that there’s been a surge of benchmark-meeting activity lately: “I would state that just in about an eight-week period, we saw benchmark legislation enacted on justice — De-Ba’athification reform, on amnesty and a provincial powers law, with its stipulation for elections by this fall…”

So does that mean more benchmarks have been met? Crocker wouldn’t pull the trigger: “Again, we’re going through the process right now.” Ay yi yi. He promised to deliver a written benchmark assessment to the committee next week.
