And the GOP has always been about the ideologically based fantasy of conservatism and rarely if ever has it been about true conservatism. It's a do as I say not as I do conservatism, the kind that thinks you should live in penury because it is your station in life, while I deserve tax breaks, free cupcakes every day and I get to listen to your phone calls and read your email. Because it does not, as Suskind discovered, believe in the validity of a factual reality, the GOP does not have to satisfy any metric or rational scrutiny of its behavior. Therefore, its setbacks are always the failure of the weak to support the party or the perfidy of the wily Democrats, who are all liberals which means terrorists, socialists, communists, homosexuals, atheists and Jews, not to mention Negros and other swarthy ethnics. It is never the failure of their policies, the gross unfairness of their positions, or the rudeness and hostility of their candidates, it is the Them.
