Palin Releases Medical History Letter

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin apparently caught her staff by surprise last month when she told NBC’s Brian Williams she would release her medical records to the public.

With the records still unreleased this week, and no indication from the McCain campaign that they would be forthcoming, several media outlets began to wonder aloud if the campaign would make good on this promise.

The campaign finally released a letter (PDF) from Palin’s physician, Cathy Baldwin-Johnson, late last night briefly summarizing the GOP vice presidential nominee’s medical history.

There’s not much to report. According to the letter, Palin “is in excellent health and has no known health problems that would interfere with her ability to carry out the duties and obligations of the Vice President of the United States of America.”

Baldwin-Johnson reports that Palin has no major medical problems, takes no medications and has been hospitalized recently only for childbirth.

While the letter is certainly not the detailed medical history that Palin said she would release, it does appear to indicate that, should Sen. John McCain win the election, she would be physically capable of assuming the presidency if needed.

However, the release of the letter by the McCain campaign late on the eve of Election Day did not allow voters much of an opportunity to evaluate the information before casting their votes. But considering that McCain — a 72-year-old four-time cancer survivor — allowed a few reporters only three hours to review his records without allowing photocopies, Palin’s release is probably what we should have expected.

So where is OBAMMA & Bidens Medical records?

If you ask for one side you need to ask everyone!

I believe that Obama also only produced a letter regarding his medical history – so what's the big deal with Palin doing the same thing?

The letter is very vague. Due to Palin's reluctance to release anything at all, it seems she is hiding something. Not her baby, depression, personal issues at home? Something is not right with this lady and she shouldn't be in the position to assume the highest office in our great country.

I agree, there's no reason to release the records this late if there is nothing in them that would make voters think twice before pushing the red “vote” button.

Obama released his medical records on May 29th and Biden released his on October 20th.

As PR professional (I know, it's an oxymoron), the timing of the release is a red flag. In PR, you release good news early so it can get coverage over a length of time. For example, publicly traded companies release good news on a Monday or Tuesday so the trade press and dailies can pick it up, contact the company for comment, and report on it fully, and the markets have time to absorb it and hopefully drive your stock higher. With any luck, you can get reporters to do follow up so you maximize coverage and positive impact on your stock. They release bad news after the markets close on Friday, so reporters have little time to seek comment before execs go home for the weekend, and hope that nobody follows up on Monday. The fact that Palin released incomplete records (which she knew was far less than what the skeptics were looking for) the evening before polls opened suggests that she doesn't want to answer questions about what's not in the two pages she released. But in this case, it's not Friday and reporters aren't going to forget about it over the weekend. Essentially, she's thrown gas on the fire, which will just create more smoke…and where there's smoke, there's usually fire.

Good that Palin “is in excellent health and has no known health problems that would interfere with her ability to carry out the duties and obligations of the Vice President of the United States of America.”

Excellent health and has no known health problems that would interfere with her ability to carry out the duties and obligations of the Vice President of the USA which is good reason for not carrying out.

Hannah Montana was a good show once upon a time when it came out. But later on it became very glossy and cliché. The freshness vanished away slowly. I like miley cyrus and his voice though. Quite a talented artist and a good actress too. Am sure the movie adaptation would be coming soon.

Oh yeah, so are we supposed to applaud palin for this effort. Though this letter is good and informative, I don’t see any special thing in it at all. Many people have released such things with a great effect and palin is doing the same. I hate when people do things for the sake of it, just to increase their overall publicity. They all suck anyway.

Three cheers to the efforts of palin in releasing the history letter of medicines. The letter seems to be clear and straightforward. However, people expected something different that would sustain the originality of the letter. This letter has its own share of benefits to everyone and I guess this is the right move to do by Plain. Good post.
