Politico: RNC Spent $150K on Palin Wardrobe

Forget $400 haircuts — accessorizing the GOP vice presidential nominee requires serious cash.

Politico reports that the Republican National Committee appears to have spent $150,000 for clothes, hair and makeup for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her family, following her pick as Sen. John McCain’s running mate.

According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.

The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.

The records also show nearly $10,000 paid to Macy’s in Minneapolis, nearly $6,000 to Barney’s and Bloomingdale’s, and $295 for “a few purchases at Pacifier, a top notch baby store, and Steiniauf & Stroller Inc.” — even little Trig got in on the action.

On the bright side, even if McCain loses the election, the Palins will still look fabulous.

UPDATE: Politico’s Mike Allen reports the McCain campaign says it will donate the clothing to charity after the election.

McCain-Palin spokesperson Tracey Schmitt: ‘With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it’s remarkable that we’re spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses. It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign.’

Steinlauf and Stoller doesn't sell baby things and on what they do sell regular folks would have a hard time spending $295.

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig . . . Oh wait!
Wrong scandal. Then how come it still fits?

My bad…You are right. I misread the article. Pacifier was the high-end baby store. I should pay more attention. I have corrected the post.

The absurd RNC expenditures (with the public's money) on Sarah Palin's wardrobe are simply putting lipstick on a Person Incompetent to Govern.

If you can't fix what comes out of her mouth, you might as well dress her up nicely as a prop. It seems to be working for some.

Because like, every poor woman fits in a teeny size and needs a campaign wardrobe.

I'm going to remember that the next time I am struck with shopping lust. I'll just donate my old clothes to charity…yeah…that'll work…

So much for the POOR GUY “Joe the Plummer”. I think that kind of spending is over the edge. Where did this money come from?

How about $4000,00 for a haircut. Now that's fiscally conservative.
