What’s ‘Victory’ In Afghanistan?

A good question from Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE). You’d think someone would have figured this out by now. But what does Petraeus envision?

"Security is very much improved," Petraeus answers. "You will not have these pockets in which reconstruction is challenged. [And] the economy starts to get to a self-sustaining stage." OK, so we’re not actually talking about any kind of real military victory. I guess that’s both cynical and true, but it would be nice if such a thing would actually be stated openly by political leaders.
