‘Daily Show’ reporter dares Florida governor to take drug test during press conference
During the unveiling of his budget recommendations for the upcoming legislative session, Aasif Mandvi of The Daily Show asked Gov. Rick Scott to pee in a cup to prove he is not on drugs.
During the questions portion of the conference, Mandvi asked the governor, “Would you be willing to pee into this cup to prove to Florida taxpayers that you are not on drugs?”
“We can all turn around,” Mandvi continued.
“I have done it plenty of times,” Scott replied.
Mandvi was quickly silenced, but continued to ask that reporters pass a plastic cup up to the governor. Mandvi said, “I hate to keep harping on this,” as he continued to ask that the governor heed his request.
The governor has come under a lot of criticism from civil rights advocates for new laws in the state that require welfare beneficiaries and state employees to take drug tests.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida has challenged both laws.
A U.S. court in Orlando recently granted Luis Lebron and the ACLU of Florida an injunction against the law requiring welfare applicants to be drug tested. A Navy veteran and single father, Lebron was denied temporary assistance benefits he was otherwise qualified for because he refused to waive his Fourth Amendment rights and submit to a drug test. The state has since filed an appeal.
Scott has repeatedly said he champions the welfare drug testing law, in particular, for the “benefit of children.”

Gov. Scott says he supports the law for the “benefit of children”. Lest people forget what unmitigated bulls__t that statement is, please remember that early on when this law was being pushed through the legislative process, it was brought out the he (and/or his wife) have a financial interest in the company that gets paid to do the testing and processing of the samples. He is just another Koch sucking pawn of the corporate elites, and the people of Florida would be well advised to turn him out of office just as soon as they are able to so.

I have to pee in a cup to get hired, Gov. Scott put your pee in a cup, we want to know. Just a check. Standards are just that. Talk don’t mean shit when proof is positive. Tell that to the judge.

Good for Rick Scott:
No thinking individual or CEO, wants to hire a person on drugs. If the person on drugs gets injured on the job, or God forbid is driving one of the company vehicles, and gets into an accident, or worse, kills someone. The companies insurance premiums will go right through the roof. Then the company will have to raise the selling price of their products to pay for the increased insurance premiums. I know all of this very well, because my Father had a construction company, and we habitually had problems with laborers who would show up for work drunk, or with hangovers, or under the infuence of some drug, and we would have to send some of them home.. So I also know first hand what happens to the insurance premiums. I could go on and on, and on, with many more examples.

This is a violation of privacy… No question …No exception. The ability to test someone for drugs should be allowed but only after an incident. The testing we use is dam near useless as it only really shows a few drugs. The most abused drug in the world today is pharmaceuticals. Almost no one is testing for these. The other problem is that many drugs like alcohol and cocaine are out of your system so fast it doesn’t show up on the test. When I as an adult chose to use a recreational drug, that is my chose and unless there is an incident mind your own business. Final note…. The food you eat is more dangerous to you then the drugs you want eradicated….. FACT, look it up.
