Rather, Huckabee will take to the stage to showcase his musical skills.
Huckabee, whose daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, is a top advisor to candidate Tim Pawlenty, will perform with Buddy Holly’s band The Crickets at former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum‘s tent Saturday, according to Santorum’s campaign. He will also join fellow Baptist minister and Fair Tax supporter Herman Cainon stage for more music.
“I am thrilled Gov. Huckabee will be joining us this Saturday for our family friendly party to celebrate freedom and Iowa traditions,” Santorum said through campaign staff. “If there is anyone who understands traditional family values and Iowa’s great political heritage, it is Gov. Huckabee. I know how much our supporters will enjoy visiting with him and dancing along to his well-known bass playing.”
Cain said, “We share many commonalities, including the deepness of our Christian faith and our love of music. I am humbled by his graciousness to share his musical gifts with me and I hope Iowa voters will enjoy the show.”
Huckabee finished second at the 2007 Ames Straw Poll, largely thanks to support from Evangelical Christians who found an ally in the Huckabee’s social stances on abortion and same-sex marriage. Though his daughter serves on the Pawlenty campaign, Huckabee has yet to endorse a 2012 candidate.
