Federal court decides Hutaree militia members won’t go to trial until 2012

Members of the Hutaree Militia won’t be going to trial until February.

The Associated Press reports the decision was made in federal court in Detroit Thursday because defense attorneys needed more time to challenge evidence and to review recently released prosecution information.

The nine defendants were arrested in March of 2010 after federal law enforcement agents secured indictments against them. The indictments claim the nine members of the self-styled Christian militia planned to kill a police officer, then when the funeral procession was taking the slain officer to be laid to rest, they would attack the procession unleashing a “war” with the government. Eight of the militia members are charged with sedition and rebellion, while the ninth is being treated for mental health issues.

Four of the militia members are currently out on bond, while the other five remain in custody.
