Image by Matt MahurinState Sen. Alan Hays, R-Umatilla, last month filed an “Application of Foreign Law” bill for the legislative session that begins next Tues., March 8. According to a right-wing blog, the law is an attempt to “stop the spread of Sharia in Florida.” #

Red County blogger Richard Swier writes that the controversial anti-Muslim group ACT! for America sent out the following press release about Hays’ bill: #

The American and Florida Laws for Florida Courts (anti-Shariah Legislation) has been filed in the Florida Legislature. We have sponsors in both the House and the Senate. #

The purpose of American and Florida Laws for Florida Courts is to preserve the sovereignty of the US and Florida and their respective Constitutions by preventing the encroachment of foreign laws and legal systems, such as Shariah law, that run counter to our individual constitutional liberties and freedoms. #

“This bill is much needed to stop the spread of Sharia in Florida,” Swier writes. #

The summary of the bill says the law “specifies the public policy of this state in applying the choice of a foreign law, legal code, or system under certain circumstances.” #

More on this to come. #

This is a joke. The “choice of foreign law” in state codes does NOT refer to the laws of foreign countries — but of other states! Doesn’t anybody actually speak to a law professor or attorney before going off half-cocked?

For a law to be enforced in any state — it must be passed by the legislature! Remember schoolhouse rock? “I’m just a bill, yes I’m only a bill . . . . .

Is Sen. Hays really concerned that his fellow Republicans are going to pass legislation that mirrors Sharia law? This bill is an unnecessary distraction from real issues that affect Floridians. For Pete’s sake, solve some real problems, Mr. Hays, or give up your seat in the Florida Senate. Voters are anxious to see which other legislators sign on to this legislative boondoggle.

This is NOT a REAL PROBLEM…wake up…You’re sounding like a liberal. This effects our sovereignty and introduces laws that are contrary to our own. Why don’t the “legislators” that are running from their jobs for political in Wisconsin get “uncocky”. If this bill passes it will pave the way for a stronger resistence. The states can stop ANY LAW they want to to be imposed against their state and the other states can follow suit.

We need to protect this country at all cost, look at Britian and France. They have probably waited to late to stop sharia. Act now.
