Tancredo, Angle, Whitman Lose After Anti-Illegal Immigration Campaigns
Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at 1:22 am
A few pieces of good news for supporters of a more inclusive immigration policy: Harry Reid beat out Sharron Angle (R), who ran a campaign that relied heavily on anti-illegal immigration rhetoric, and immigration hawk Tom Tancredo lost the race for Colorado governor.
Angle posed a serious threat to Reid, in spite of — or perhaps because of — rhetoric and advertising on immigration that frequently crossed the line into offensive territory, according to Latino groups. Angle claimed Reid supported a number of policies to help illegal immigrants and seemed to be attempting to capitalize on ethnic fears in ads that showed angry-looking Latino men set to dramatic, if untrue, statements.
Tancredo also campaigned largely on immigration policy, accusing his Democratic opponent John Hickenlooper of supporting “sanctuary city” policies that allowed illegal immigrants to stay in the country and threaten American lives. Hickenlooper won the election.
Immigrant rights advocates will also be pleased about the California governor race, where Republican Meg Whitman lost to Democrat Jerry Brown. Whitman shifted to the right during her Republican primary and received support from former Gov. Pete Wilson, the controversial figure behind California’s now-overturned Proposition 187 to exclude undocumented immigrants from state services. Whitman tried to reach out to Latino voters after her primary, but was hindered by allegations of mistreatment and illegal employment by an undocumented maid who worked for her for almost a decade.
Anti-illegal immigration governors won in a few other states, though. New Mexico’s Susana Martinez (R) emerged victorious, as did Georgia’s Nathan Deal (R) and South Carolina’s Nikki Haley (R). All three support harsher laws on immigration in their states.

Your pal Harry Reid won because he stole the election. I find it very hard to believe that a man that never could get close to 50% in all of the polls, Gallup, Rassmusen suddenly won by over 50%. What happened here tonight is unamerican. The american vote is precious and is paid for by the blood of men and women who have lost their lives. So Obama sending his henchmen to Nevada to be poll watchers certainly seemed to help Reid today.

What nonsense. Whitman lost because she was a billionaire that exported jobs. Tancredo was a 3rd party candidate that nearly took the governors office because of his immigration stance. Angle is a nutcase that should have never even come close to Harry Reed.
Americans are fed up with immigration.

Harry Reid won because he had the votes from people like me that knew we could not afford a NUT like Angle. There was nothing rigged about the vote. If Angle had won the vote would have been correct but because she lost, all of a sudden it is corrupt. What a loser. Angle had poll watchers to make sure things were good just as the democrats did. Quit whining. Enough thinking people voted for Harry instead of that fear Angle was selling to people caught up in emotions instead of what is good for Nevada. Even republicans came out against her. Go Democracy!

The races were fixed. I KNOW that Tom Tancredo was ahead in the polls, and that even independent columnists were taking note.
I call on the entire state of Colorado who voted for Tom, to do a 'diversity dance' and riot in the streets, because THIS RACE WAS FIXED.
I call upon the powers that be, to denounce this sham election, charge voter fraud, check EVERY machine, count every 'pregnant chad' and do the legal stall routine that every DEMON-crat does, because this was a NO CONTEST vote.

Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me. Tancredo was a nutcase.

Let's see. Tom Tancredo runs as an independent against a Democrat. Sharron Angle takes on a five-term incumbent who's also the Senate majority leader and who even gets the support of the Republican leadership that doesn't support a Tea Partier. Meg Whitman is two-faced and tells Hispanics she favors an amnesty. In short, for the first two, it's not a surprise that they lost. The key thing is that they were even contenders in the first place–and THAT shows the public's dissatisfaction with Harry Reid and pro-amnesty types.

Tom Tancredo avoided VietNam with a 1-Y deferement because the army said he was mentally unstable.

[...] This election wasn’t about immigration – much of it was dominated by the issue of jobs and the economy. But the issue of immigration, even if it wasn’t front and center, did play a crucial role in winning Senate seats. In California, Meg Whitman’s strong anti-immigrant stance yielded no results, while in Colorado, Senator Michael Bennet received support from Latino voters, and in Nevada, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s positive stance on immigration brought in Latino voters who formed 16% of the entire electorate. In an analysis on the Washington Independent- [...]

A few hundred thousand ILLEGAL aliens would be a big problem and cause concern from many citizens of this country. 12 to 30 million ILLEGAL aliens here is an INVASION! There will always be resentment and bad feeling towards all Latinos as long as the majority of us support this criminal behavior. The 1986 amnesty made the problem worse…another amnesty will lead to the destruction of this nation. All countries must have rule of law and control of their borders or they cease to be a nation.
Comment posted November 3, 2010 @ 9:36 pm
I see you conveniently left out that anti-immigration supporters took over the majority in the house and took enough seats in the Senate to block any majority vote by illegal immigration supporters. Talk about biased reporting! There will be no “comprehensive immigration reform” (read amnesty) this term
