Evolution of a ‘Voter Fraud’ Incident in Nevada
Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Fox News presents a good test case for demonstrating how an unverified account of voting machine irregularities in Nevada can become a national story about how Democrats are trying to steal the midterm elections. First, run a quick story that quotes a single voter in Nevada insisting Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) name was already checked when she went to cast her ballot via touch screen early voting on Monday:
Voters in Boulder City said they were trying to vote for Republican nominee Sharron Angle, but that Reid’s name was checked when they got to the electronic voting machines.
“Something’s not right,” voter Joyce Ferrara told the network, saying several people reported the same problem. “One person that’s a fluke. Two, that’s strange. But several within a five-minute period of time — that’s wrong.”
Next, provide a link to a longer story via the local Vegas Fox affiliate that quotes the registrar of voters debunking the claim and notes that not a single voter has reported any irregularities to staff at a polling location:
Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said those claims were “patently false” and said at no time did any of those voters report the incident to staff at their polling location.
“In fact, although over 160,000 people have voted early in Clark County, those allegations that have been made have gone directly to the media as opposed to election board officers,” he said.
Lomax advised voters to be aware that touch-screens on the screens are sensitive. For that reason, a person may not want to have their fingers linger too long on the screen after they make a selection at any time.
And let Rush Limbaugh take it from there:
So this woman goes in to vote — and it’s happening to a lot of people in Nevada going in to early vote and they are checking off their candidate, and it’s not Harry Reid, and then it shows up on the screen as though they have voted for Harry Reid. And this is happening in North Carolina. In New Bern, North Carolina, a lot of places around the country, reports are starting to trickle in that early voting cheating has already begun. So what do you do? What do you do when this happens? The only thing I can think of is to call the New Black Panther Party for help. These are the experts, ladies and gentlemen, at running fraudulent elections, and they have the imprimatur of the Justice Department. They’re not charged with any crimes when they engage in this kind of stuff.
Seriously, this is starting to pop up all over the place. The Democrats do not have one issue on which they can run with pride and say, “Look what we accomplished.” Nothing. All they can do is cheat.
From a woman in Nevada to a nationwide scheme on the part of Democrats, aided in part by the New Black Panther Party, to steal the elections. The outcome of the Nevada Senate race is going to be extremely close and both sides are going to have to accept the victory of the other candidate as legitimate in order to keep the situation within the bounds of a civil, democratic process. Stirring up fears that one party is trying to steal the elections is certainly not helping.

I think you missed the black panther point zwick. The black panthers stood outside voting booths a few months back with clubs and were intimidating white voters. Afterward, all charges against the panthers were dropped.

Maybe the reason she didn't go to the election board is because the process is run by cronies of Reid and his son. If I were suspicious that Reid supporters were trying to steal the election, the establishment is the last place I'd go.
In a democracy, the process is what keeps us free; and tampering with the process is an assault on not merely one election but on public confidence in the process itself. It is perhaps the most serious crime possible in a free society, and should be a capital offense.
If someone has tampered with the machines to force them to select a particular candidate, he deserves to die. Our laws should reflect this; and, upon conviction, his execution should be swift and public.

Sounds like they're just calling it like it is. Only possible fraud I see is with the voting machines.

Want to see voter fraud? Have a look at a local election in Hoboken NJ where one candidate is orchestrating a campaign (largely in the housing authority) to get people to vote by mail – with “help” of course. And magically, many of these same people are also being paid as campaign workers….if you read between the lines you quickly see this is “let us help you vote by mail, and you can be a campaign worker for $40…”

I'd like to see if another voter comes forward, as the media has already given credence to the “multiple voters.” The only verification for multiple voters is a quote from a single person who has a stated interest in who wins this Senate race.

So, NOW they're concerned about touch screen voting machines.

we should start calling the Democratic party what it has become…the socialist regime party. These guys aren't Democrats or Republicans, they are 'the elite' and we are indentured servants here to fill their agenda.

I went to early vote today in Clark County NV. First, I made my pick for office, which I could immediately change if I picked the wrong candidate. At the end of this process, they showed me my picks and I could change them again if I wanted to. Then a paper ballot on the side of the machine, showed my picks again and I was offered another chance to change my mind. After that, I was offered the choice to cast the ballot or change my mind again. 4 times, I could have changed my vote. Anyone who alleges the ballot was pre marked and could not be changed is a liar. There is a paper ballot and the electronic screen verifying the vote at every step 4 times. No voter fraud, just Angle supporters looking to cry foul if Reid wins.

I know of another fraud scheme in Nevada. A voting machine was taken out of Scolari's to a car with an apparently handicaped person needing to vote and later returned with 200 votes on it.

Liz that claim was debunked and no incidents were reported to staff at their polling location. The only scheme here is repeating false information in a hope that someone will believe it.

Election judges align with different parties, to prevent hat happening. If you find they're all from one party, or the judges from one party manage to exclude the others, then you have an issue. Otherwise, there was no excuse to go to FOX instead of the judges except to try to cause a problem.
I'm so glad my state votes on paper.

“Stirring up fears?”
Perhaps it would be better if there were not situations like this happening in the first place. The Democrats have already been given the okay by liberal judges to offer free food and gift-certificates at polling places and that proof-of-citizenship is not now required to vote, just a driver's license or other identification. The court also previously said a little “encouragement” from the Black Panthers is okay too.
Who's stirring up fears? Those creating these situations in the first place or those who are just calling attention to those situations.

I believe the person who brought up the claims of fraud did not say the ballot could not be changed. She just said the name was already checked. If her claims are valid then shame on whoever is responsible. If she is lying, then shame on her. The thing is, there is no proof either way.

Democrats are rigging voting machines and switching ballots to change Republican votes into Democrat votes. If you plan to vote Republican, stay home–the Democrats will convert your votes into votes for Democrats!

Clearly Jesse doesn't live in Nevada. This election is HUGE, and Reid has the wrong kind of political power… the power to cheat, plain and simple. If voter Joyce in Boulder City reported the problem, and others said they had the same problem, then the election may be rigged.
Jesse's just mad because the political right has its own PR machine to get the word out nationally:Rush, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, et. al.

If there is an accusation of machines being rigged those machines need to be taken into custody and checked by professionals not involved in this election. That, and only that, will either kill the charges or lead to folks going to jail.
There is more than enough time to do this before the general election. What you don't want is this charge popping up on election day when there will be no way to check the machines without major voting delays.
Any computer can be tampered with. Anyone saying something is fool proof is lying or a fool. But the public deserves to have their minds eased about this accusation and within a couple of hours a good computer program should be able to say “no problem, or “something is really wrong here.”

I would like to have the the pre-selection of Harry Reid verified. This should not be hard. If the process is as Kathy describes, then at least the vote should not be an issue, but a pre-selection is wrong. Touchscreens are sensitive???? That is stupid. I've programmed plenty of touchscreens. That has nothing to do with pre-selection. Also, the code should be pretty simple to check. I could verify it in less than an hour. The system should have an audit trail, which should be completely verifiable as well. Been writing software security systems for over 10 yrs. These are easy issues to resolve quickly. Most security issues in a computer system are usually user issues (or user access issues).
I don't want Harry Reid to win, but I don't want BS complaints to propagate either. Verify it in a bi partisan way and move on. also, those in charge of the machines should not have ties to a particular party (aka SEIU). this should be handled by at least a pair of independent firms (one to keep an eye on the other)

Naw, people are just making this up. Darn right wing conspiracy in full effect. These cases cropping up in Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania of touchscreens marking opposing candidates is all just Republican fanaticism. Democratic voters have been reported as also “conspiratorially” complaining of this happening to their ballots as well. I think it's just the Republicans' way of trying to steal the election. This is their “ACORN”, “Moveon.org“, “black panthers” moment.
